VOLUNTEER WITH THE VILLAGE EDUCATION PROJECT, SUMMER 2008
FOR MORE INFORMATION AND APPLICATION FORMS, EMAIL VOLUNTEER@VILLAGEEDUCATION.ORG
Volunteers with The Village Education Project will teach Math, English, or Computer Skills at a rigorous summer program for underprivileged children in the rural villages surrounding Otavalo, Ecuador. Including pre-departure and on-site training, the program not only allows volunteers to experience Ecuador from one of its most vibrant cities, but to make a substantive difference in the lives of children. Classes are focused on seventh graders that the foundation will sponsor to attend high school, an opportunity currently granted to less than 10 percent of Ecuador's rural population. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to work with children of all age groups, and to branch out of the three core subjects to teach sports, music, art and other subjects. Outside of working hours, volunteers in the past have taken salsa lessons, traveled to the nearby cloud forest, climbed volcanoes, visited the rain-forest, and gone on numerous hikes through the stunning Andes mountains.
