Matthew Canfield

Matthew Canfield is a senior at the Johns Hopkins University. A senior fellow of Humanity in Action, Matthew has researched the development of Human Rights and Holocaust education in Germany. In addition Matthew spent the last summer conducting research in France on the transmission of trauma and the political role of hate crimes. In the spring of 2006, Matthew was in the Balkans, studying and conducting research on forms of national reconciliation. He is passionate about children's rights as well as peace education in post-conflict areas. Matt was president of the Johns Hopkins Chapter of the Student Movement for International Relief during which time he directed the group’s efforts toward raising awareness of genocide and health crises in the developing world. He also served as vice president of his fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi and organized a community service project to teach students in a Baltimore public school. He is a recipient of the Koren Award for Holocaust Research and Education and will graduate May of 2007 with a double major in Anthropology and International Relations.
